Ana Fire update for Thursday, July 13, 2017
Size: 5,874 acres
Start Date: July 8
Cause: Human and Under Investigation
Fuel Type: Grass, Brush and Timber
Location: Summer Lake, Oregon
Containment lines will be tested today with wind gusts expected to exceed 20 mph.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the area south of the fire from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with strong, gusty winds, low relative humidity and high fire danger.
YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS: Fire activity on the perimeter was minimal. Crews continue to patrol the entire fire area, looking for and extinguishing heat sources.
Forest Road 2901 was graded and watered, restoring it to pre-incident condition.
TODAY’S OPERATIONS: Firefighters continue building a southern containment line across Winter Rim between Hwy. 31 and Forest Road 2901 to protect private property and commercial timber.
Crews are extinguishing any hot spots or smoldering debris that could threaten containment lines. Stumps and downed logs in the interior may smolder for some time. Air support was not needed the last two days, but is readily available.
Fire managers are now repairing the impact of fire suppression activity, including restoring trails and building water bars to prevent erosion. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management personnel are assessing fire damage to natural resources and plan ongoing repairs.
Northwest Incident Management Team 12 under Incident Commander Richy Harrod is managing the wildfire in conjunction with local land management agencies. Team 12 is adjusting the number of resources to accommodate the current and expected workload.
EVACUATIONS: A Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation notification remains in place for Ana Estates and along Hwy. 31 two miles north of Forest Road 2901 and extends two miles south of The Lodge at Summer Lake, as well as all of Ana Estates.
RESTRICTIONS: Highway 31 is open with flaggers managing through traffic during fire operations. Motorists should use extra care, expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.
CLOSURES: Fremont Point Lookout was not affected, however, it is closed through August 1 to allow unrestricted suppression and recovery traffic in the area.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS: Through traffic is returning to normal levels along Hwy. 31. Please use care and watch for slower-moving vehicles, including fire and ranch equipment. Please use extreme care with any heat source, spark or open flame.
