LAKEVIEW, Ore. – A wildfire
was reported at 1:44 p.m., and confirmed, in the California Avenue area of
Klamath Falls today.
The Link Trail fire is currently zero percent contained
and assessed at 25 acres.
Eight
firefighting engines, one heavy air tanker, one Single Engine Air Tanker, two
helicopters with water buckets, two support aircraft, and a bulldozer have
responded to the fire. Responders are from the Oregon Department of Forestry
and U.S. Forest Service. The Klamath County Fire Department also responded with
additional resources for structural firefighting.
Fire
managers are utilizing a full suppression strategy to contain the fire.
Structures and community safety are at risk from the fire; there are no
injuries or damage to structures reported at this time.
Residents
and visitors are asked to be aware of their surroundings and watch for traffic
from increased fire personnel and smoke in the area.
The
cause of the fire in under investigation at this time.
Every
fire can appear different visually depending on the forest type, fuel load and
how long fire has been absent from the area. This includes wildfires and
prescribed fires.
