Bryant Fire Contained
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – The Bryant
fire, located at the northern base of Bryant Mountain, approximately 5 miles
south of Bonanza is 100 percent lined and considered contained within the last
12 hours.
Due to
improved mapping, the fire is now assessed to be approximately 32 acres.
The significant progress made
on the fire yesterday was fortified by overnight crews conducting mop-up
operations.
“Our goal was to hold it with
no additional growth- and we did,” said Rusty NcNair, Incident Commander Trainee
from Oregon Department of Forestry Klamath-Lake District.
Today, firefighters continue
mop-up operations to put out any remaining embers or hot spots.
Mop-up operations are projected to continue for another 72
hours.
Red flag warnings are in effect for the area from 1 p.m
through 8 p.m. today with sustained winds up to 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Fire
managers’ concerns are that high winds have the potential to cause dying embers
to flare up and hamper firefighting efforts.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Every
fire can appear different visually depending on the forest type, fuel load and
how long fire has been absent from the area. This includes wildfires and
prescribed fires.
Community
safety and that of our firefighters is the number one priority for all SCOFMP employees.
