September 2, 2017 – Jade Creek Fire Update
BLY, Ore. – Approximately 200 firefighters are assigned
to the wind-driven Jade Creek fire that started on August 29, 2017 by
lightning. The fire is currently reported at approximately 1,600 acres and is
located 15 miles east of Bly, Ore.
South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) has
deployed multiple fire resources to the incident, and made continued progress
yesterday suppressing the fire with scoopers, helicopters, engines, dozers and
hand crews.
Additional fire resources are being mobilized today to strengthen
the suppression efforts and enhance control lines. Due to increased complexity
of the incident, the Jade Creek Fire has been transitioned to a Type 2 Incident
Management Team today.
Due to the threat of the Jade Creek Fire; the Corral
Creek, Dead Horse Creek, Happy Camp, and Clear Springs Campgrounds have been
evacuated; as well as hikers to Palisades Rock and Lookout Rock. Campers at
Bear Flat and Dairy Point are asked to be prepared for possible evacuation
depending upon fire growth and behavior.
Road travelers on Highway 140 between Bly and Lakeview
should be aware of decreased visibility due to smoke, intermittent road
closures, and emergency response vehicles in the area. There is a current Road
Closure Order that involves all or part of FS Roads 34, 28, 3660, 3428, 047,
3372, and 019 and areas south of Gearhart Wilderness and Coleman Rim. Please
