LAKEVIEW,
Ore. – South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) crews had contained
the 41-acre Vee Lake Fire by the end of the day Friday and are mopping up and extinguishing
hot spots today.
The cause of the fire, which was reported at 11:45 a.m. Friday, is still
under investigation. At its peak, seven engines, with air support from Single
Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and helicopters, were assigned to the fire. This
morning, four engines and a hand crew were on the scene.
Vee Lake is a popular recreation area in the North Warner Mountains on
the Fremont-Winema National forest. All
roads and recreation facilities in the area remain open, although visitors are
asked to drive carefully and abide by current fire restrictions.
Those restrictions include no campfires outside designated campgrounds;
no driving over flammable material, such as dry grass or weeds; no chainsaw use;
and no smoking outside enclosed vehicles. For more details about use

Visitors are also asked to be aware of their surroundings and be
prepared for changing conditions. This
includes reporting visible smoke that could be from a wildfire. To report a

South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership is an interagency fire management program that provides comprehensive wildland fire service to south central Oregon and northwest Nevada. The partnership strives to achieve a more efficient, effective and integrated interagency fire management program for all participating agencies on the land administered and protected by each agency.

Fremont-Winema National Forest, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview
District, Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge, Klamath Basin National
Refuge, Crater Lake National Park and state lands protected by the Klamath-Lake
District of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
