Fire crews quickly contain Vee Lake Fire -- Aug. 19

LAKEVIEW, Ore. – South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) crews had contained the 41-acre Vee Lake Fire by the end of the day Friday and are mopping up and extinguishing hot spots today.

The cause of the fire, which was reported at 11:45 a.m. Friday, is still under investigation. At its peak, seven engines, with air support from Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and helicopters, were assigned to the fire. This morning, four engines and a hand crew were on the scene.

Vee Lake is a popular recreation area in the North Warner Mountains on the Fremont-Winema National forest.  All roads and recreation facilities in the area remain open, although visitors are asked to drive carefully and abide by current fire restrictions.

Those restrictions include no campfires outside designated campgrounds; no driving over flammable material, such as dry grass or weeds; no chainsaw use; and no smoking outside enclosed vehicles. For more details about use restrictions, visit www.scofmp.org

Visitors are also asked to be aware of their surroundings and be prepared for changing conditions.  This includes reporting visible smoke that could be from a wildfire. To report a fire, please call 911.
