July 28, 2017 Modoc Update

July 28 Warner Mountain Lighting Incident Update

Incident: Modoc July Complex Wildfire
Released: 9 hrs. ago
Alturas, Calif. – Recent thunderstorms ignited approximately 39 wildfires within the Warner Mountain Ranger District between July 24 and July 25. Most of these ignitions are less than 1/2 acre and are located in the southern portion of the district between Pine Creek and Blue Lake and in the South Warner Wilderness. Smoke can be seen from Hwy 395 south of Alturas from the Cantrall Fire located east of Pine Creek and is currently 260 acres. The West Fire which is northwest of Blue Lake was reported at 64 acres.
A local Type 3 Incident Organization has been established to manage these incidents and will be continuing suppression efforts to contain and control both current and new incidents, as well as provide initial attack response for the Modoc National Forest. Holdover fires from the wet thunderstorms the forest received are still possible as the predicted weather becomes hotter and drier combined with increased afternoon winds.
