Ana Fire: 6200 acres, 20 percent contained
SUMMER LAKE, Ore. – Ana Fire suppression efforts
are concentrating on the southern and southwestern perimeter today to halt the
fire’s spread.
A community
meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at The Lodge at Summer Lake,
53460 Hwy. 31, to update residents and business owners on the status of the
fire, with representatives from fire and land management agencies and law
enforcement.
Crews and dozers will be working to build a containment line
across Winter Rim between Hwy. 31 and Forest Road 2901 south of the Summer Lake
Post Office to protect private property, the Fremont Lookout area and
commercial timber. Helicopters and air tankers will provide support with water
and retardant drops.
Firefighters are also patrolling and reinforcing containment
lines to the west, north and east. Fire movement remains largely on Lakeview
District Bureau of Land Management, Fremont-Winema National Forest and Oregon
Department of Forestry-protected lands.
Hwy. 31 is open to local traffic guided by pilot cars as fire
operations continue. Motorists should use extra care, expect delays and use
alternate routes if possible.
A Level 2 (Get Set) evacuation notification remains in place
for the area from two miles north of Forest Road 2901 to two miles south of The
Lodge at Summer Lake along Hwy. 31 and all of Ana Estates.
Northwest Incident Management Team 12 under Incident
Commander Richy Harrod took charge of the fire operations Monday. The Incident
Command Post is located at the North Lake School in Silver Lake, Ore.
Gusty winds are expected to continue today. A wet winter and
spring yielded heavier-than-normal grasses, which have cured and dried in the
recent hot, dry weather, enabling fire to spread rapidly. Please be extremely careful with any type of
heat source, including power tools, firearms and vehicles as well as more
traditional sources of fire, such as matches.
